Computer haben die menschliche Gesellschaft so nachhaltig verändert wie vielleicht das Rad vor ihnen. Diese technischen Geräte sind aus dem Alltag der zivilisierten Welt nicht mehr wegzudenken. Doch werden die breit gefächerten kognitiven Kanäle des Menschen bei der Benutzung dieser Geräte auch tatsächlich optimal genutzt? Der Mensch nimmt einen Großteil seines Umfelds über das visuelle Kanal wahr. Die Evolution hat diese kognitive Fähigkeit perfektioniert. Kann man aber diese Fähigkeit auch sinnvoll zum Programmieren von Computern einsetzen? In dieser Arbeit wird der Versuch gewagt, die visuelle Programmierung an die Bildverarbeitung anzuwenden. Es wird zuerst ein historischer und aktueller Überblick über die Vielfältigkeit der Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion und der visuellen Programmierung gegeben. Die Konzepte aus diesen Bereichen werden an die Bildverarbeitung angewendet und anhand einer neu entwickelten und leicht nachvollziehbaren visuellen Sprache -ViPSVI (Visual Programming System for VIGRA Interactive)- wird die Frage beantwortet, wie sinnvoll eine visuelle Sprache im Allgemeinen für die Programmierung und im Speziellen für die Bildverarbeitung ist.
