Das vorliegende Werk wurde 2009 unter dem Titel "Nichtlinearitäten und langes Gedächtnis im Finanzmarkt" als Diplomarbeit erstellt. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Schätzung und Prognose von Volatilitäten für verschiedene Aktienmarktindizes. Zur Schätzung der Volatilität wurde das GARCH Modell verwendet, welches jedoch nicht die Vorzeichen der Rendite und die Abhängigkeit zwischen zeitlich lang entfernter Volatilitäten - langes Gedächtnis - berücksichtigt, so dass zusätzlich noch Erweiterungen des GARCH Modells für die Volatilitätsschätzung hinzugezogen wurden. Die Arbeit gliedert sich in einen theoretischen und empirischen Teil. Im theoretischen Teil werden die unterschiedlichen Modelle vorgestellt und ihre Stärken und Schwächen diskutiert. Im empirischen Teil werden diese Modelle zur Schätzung und Prognose von Aktienmarktzeitreihen angewendet.
