Nina Härter zeigt, wie wichtig ein Produkt - und ganz explizit auch sein Konsum - für das Identitätsgefühl sein kann. Auf der Grundlage des Theoriebildungsansatzes "Hybride Kulturen" (Culturas híbridas) von Néstor García Canclini, ergänzt durch Arjun Appadurais Konzept "The social life of things", arbeitet Härter die Einfluss- und Erfolgsfaktoren von Inca Kola auf die (moderne) nationale Identität in Peru heraus. Sie erweitert die Forschung zu nationalisierten Produkten und identitätsstiftender Werbung damit um einen Beitrag mit lateinamerikanischem Schwerpunkt und hybrider Bevölkerungsstruktur.
