Das Werk von Hilma af Klint (1862 1944) ist einer breiten Öffentlichkeit immer noch viel zu wenig bekannt: Bereits 1906 wandte sich die Künstlerin von der Gegenständlichkeit ab und schuf bis 1915 fast 200 abstrakte Gemälde, davon einige in großen Formaten. Wie Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian oder Kasimir Malewitsch, die man bisher als Pioniere der Abstraktion betrachtet hat, wurde auch sie von den zeitgenössischen spirituellen Bewegungen wie Spiritismus, Theosophie und später der Anthroposophie beeinflusst. Ihre vielgestaltige Bilderwelt versucht Einblicke in andere Dimensionen der Existenz zu geben, in denen sich Mikro- und Makrokosmos ineinander spiegeln. Hilma af Klint hinterließ mehr als 1000 Gemälde, Aquarelle und Skizzen. Die Publikation stellt Hilma af Klints bedeutendste abstrakte Werke sowie weitere Bilder und Papierarbeiten vor, die hier teilweise zum ersten Mal gezeigt werden.
