Effect of farmyard manure on growth and yield of Carrot

Carrot belongs to the Kingdom of Plantae, botanical family of Apiacea.The scientific name is Daucus Carota.L.It is an annual or biennial erect herb up to 50 cm tall at the mature vegetative stage and up to 150 cm tall when flowering .It has taproot fleshy ,straight ,conical to cylindrical,5-50 cm long and 2-5cm in diameter at top, orange (most common),reddish violet, yellow or white.The stem consists of a small plate-like crown with leaves that have long petioles and are pinnately compound.The inflorescence is a terminal compound umbel,subtended by pinnatifid bracts.The flowers of the umbel are white except for the central ones which are either red or purple.carrots require a steady supply of moisture that must be maintained at above 50%, the rainfall of at least 100 mm in warm, 200 mm in dry conditions and grow better with the temperature ranging between 150c and 200c.Deep, well-drained, loose, sandy loam and muck soils with pH ranging between 5.5 and 7.0 are desirable. It is recommended to work the soils to a depth of 12 to 15 inches (30.5 to 38.1cm) for good root penetration.Soils should be bedded to obtain optimum drainage and maximum root length.
