Barth: A Guide for the Perplexed offers a concise but comprehensive introduction to the work of the most important Protestant theologian of the twentieth century. The first chapter of the book considers the life of Karl Barth and the context within which his theology was written. Thereafter, the chapters examine in turn the key theological loci which Barth treated in his magnum opus, the Church Dogmatics. These chapters therefore explore the doctrine of the Word of God, the doctrine of God, the doctrine of creation, Christology, pneumatology, and the Christian life. In each case, the key theological moves which Barth makes are first analysed and then evaluated in the light of external critique. The final chapter considers the legacy of the work of Barth, and offers suggestions for further reading.
