This volume looks at the Third Great Awakening, one of the most exciting times in the history of American Christianity. A. B. Simpson's impact on the Third Great Awakening and his influence on the modern church is examined. Emphasis is placed on the denomination he founded, the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Simpson's message, the Fourfold Gospel, is also explored. The Fourfold Gospel is: Christ as the Christian's Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King. The denomination Simpson founded took this message not only to North America, but also throughout the world. Five movements made up the Third Great Awakening and Simpson's contribution to each one is examined. These five movements include: Evangelizing, Holiness Movement, Healing Movement, Pre-millenial Movement, and Urban and Worldwide Outreach. As this book concludes with a look at Simpson's influence on the church today, we are reminded that as the church goes through the twenty-first century, the Fourfold Gospel continues to be proclaimed just as it was during the Third Great Awakening. ""Dr. Yount's study is a must-read for anyone entering the ordination process or becoming an international worker in the Christian & Missionary Alliance. Yount carefully describes how and why the spiritual DNA of the founder began in New York City in the late nineteenth century, and why it has grown to more than 6 million followers of Christ worldwide.""  --Paul Keidel, Global Advance & Consulting, New Jersey & Metropolitan region of the Christian & Missionary Alliance ""Of all the men used by God to shape the evangelical church in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century America, Albert Benjamin Simpson is today one of the least remembered. Dr. Yount has done us a great service in reminding us of Simpson's enormous contributions. May God raise up 'another like unto him!'"" --John Soper, former Vice President for Church Ministries, Christian & Missionary Alliance; Senior Pastor, Ridgeway Alliance Church, White Plains, NY. Author and presenter of internet Bible Study program Mission119 ""A. B. Simpson's impact on the Third Great Awakening was profound, yet little known beyond the denomination to which he helped give birth. This wonderful study by Michael Yount helps correct that neglect and makes Simpson's life, ministry, and impact accessible to a larger audience. This excellent addition to American Christian history and revival studies will be welcomed by scholars, students, and laypeople everywhere."" --Robert J. Mayer, Assistant Professor of Theological Bibliography, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Michael G. Yount was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1955. He and his wife Sue have been married for thirty-three years and have two daughters, Becky and Shelly, and one son, Jamie. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University, a Master of Divinity from Columbia International University, a Master of Theology from Princeton, and a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He has been a pastor for thirty-three years.
