Beginning with a survey of the structure of melts and solids, Physics of Functional Materials outlines modern theory of atoms and molecules as well as different types of bonds in solids. Three chapters of modern physics are followed by ones on the properties of gases, transformation kinetics (including chemical reactions), and diffusion in solids and mechanical, thermal and magnetic properties. The book also explores transport properties, including thermal and electrical conduction in solids, particularly electrical conduction in metals and doped semiconductors. The last chapter includes a short survey of the material properties of liquids and melts.
