Beide freistehenden Bergmassive sind vulkanischen Ursprungs und in Nationalparks mit sehr artenreicher Fauna und Flora eingebettet. Der Autor bestieg zunächst zur Akklimatisation in einer 4-Tages-Tour den 4.562 h hohen Mount Meru und anschließend über die lange Lemosho-Route in 6 Tagen den 5.895 m hohen Kilimanjaro. Sein Reisebericht ist sowohl informativ mit viel Hintergrundwissen, persönlichen Erfahrungen und Reisetipps gespickt als auch mit heiteren Begebenheiten und vielen Farbfotos angereichert.
