Das alttestamentliche Buch Threni besteht aus fünf Liedern. Sie beklagen das Leid der Menschen bei der Zerstörung Jerusalems 587 v. Chr., zeugen aber auch von einer Diskussion zum Umgang mit Leid. Einerseits wird Gott angeklagt, das Leid herbeigeführt zu haben, andererseits wird er entlastet und der Grund des Leids in der Schuld der Betroffenen gesucht.
