Im ersten Teil wird eine alternative Herleitung der Euler-Hamilton-Gleichungen der Mechanik angegeben, sowie verallgemeinerte kanonische Transformationen, welche diese Gleichungen invariant lassen. Im zweiten Teil werden mechanische Systeme mit Bindungen untersucht. Dabei sind vorallem die nichtlinearen Bindungen Gegenstand der Untersuchungen. Ausgehend von der klassischen Theorie der Bindungen, wird eine kanonische Theorie für allgemeine Bindungen entwickelt, wobei Methoden der modernen Differentialgeometrie verwendet werden.
