This book describes imaging and labelling techniques as a diagnostic tool in the critically ill in respect to the brain and the nervous system, the lungs, the cardiovascular system, and the abdomen. Each section considers methods which can be used as a bedside procedure before going on to discuss more powerful diagnostic tools. The advantages and hazards of transporting patients to such equipment are evaluated and thereby offer the intensivist and the radiologist a rationale for carrying out these techniques in the critically ill. A final section considers special methods applicable to all organ systems as well as procedures still in the research stage that may become clinical routine in the near future.
