Handbook of Internet Studies

The proposed volume will present a wide range of original essays by established scholars in the field of Internet studies. The Internet is an obvious focus for such a collection given the significant role it plays in modern societies, as well as the continuing development of its academic study - a study that most often requires multiple disciplines and their interdisciplinary cooperation. To fully understand the impact and significance of the Internet, it is essential to consider its historical, societal, and cultural context.§§This volume gives the reader a range of standpoints intended to provide both introductory and more sophisticated frameworks for understanding these many areas of Internet research, both individually and collectively, with specific focus on their development, distinct areas of inquiry, and key problematics. Additionally, this volume will synthesize and draw connections between disparate areas, in order to identify for readers where there are still common approaches to research, similar questions being asked, and methods and literature that can commonly apply.§§Each section of the book will identify a broad area or theme relevant to Internet Studies as a key area of inquiry within the last decade. Within each section, individual chapters will provide in-depth analysis of current research, debates and questions being raised in that particular sub-area.
