'The scientist has the habit of science; the artist, the habit of art' - Flannery O'Connor. This collection of stories contains some of the best new short fiction from America. The stories display a wide range of styles, settings, and themes. In addition to being among the country's most talented, prize-winning writers, the authors gathered in "The Habit of Art" also share a common bond as former members of the fiction workshop at Indiana University, which celebrates its first 25 years with the publication of this book.Tony Ardizzone is the author of seven books of fiction, including "In the Garden of Papa Santuzzu" (1999); "Taking It Home: Stories from the Neighborhood" (1996), and "Larabi's Ox": "Stories of Morocco" (1992). His writing has received the Chicago Foundation for Literature Award for Fiction, the Milkweed National Fiction Prize, the Flannery O' Connor Award for Short Fiction, the Virginia Prize for Fiction, the Lawrence Foundation Award, the Bruno Arcudi Literature Prize, and other honors. Since 1987 he has taught creative writing, ethnic American literature, and 20th century American fiction at Indiana University, where he has twice served terms as Director of Creative Writing.
