Der Autor und Kunstschriftsteller Johann Friedrich Jaennicke (1831-1907) stellt im vorliegenden Band (hier Band 2 von 2 Bänden) von 1879 einen Grundriss der Keramik in Bezug auf das Kunstgewerbe vor. Eine historische Darstellung ihrer Entwicklung in Europa, dem Orient und Ostasien von den ältesten Zeiten. Im zweiten Band beschreibt er in Fortsetzung des 1. Bandes die Keramik der Neueren Zeit bis ca. 1875. Ein zuverlässiger Führer für Kunstfreunde, Sammler, Fabrikanten, Modelleure und Gewerbeschulen wie auch als Ergänzung zur Kunstgeschichte. Auf kunstgeschichtlichem Gebiet veröffentlichte er zahlreiche Handbücher und geschichtliche Abhandlungen zu den verschiedenen Maltechniken und zur Keramik, die teilweise als Standardwerke galten, in vielen Neuauflagen erschienen und auch in Fremdsprachen übersetzt wurden.
