The landscape of satellite-based positioning is reshaping as new Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are emerging, and the existing GPS and GLONASS systems are undergoing enhancements and updates. The European GALILEO is planned to be operational after a couple of years, so it is time to take a closer look at the system characteristics and the technology needed to build receivers for GALILEO-based positioning. This book is the first one to address primarily GALILEO receivers. By now, the main focus of all the books on satellite-based positioning has been in the existing GPS system, and GALILEO may have been added as a side topic to the books (typically later, in revised editions). In this book we take a holistic approach to GALILEO and the other related systems and technologies are relegated to the margin. The editors are cooperating in EU FP7 project GRAMMAR which is addressing mass-market receiver development for the upcoming European satellite navigation system, and have good contacts to the GALILEO research community throughout Europe.
