1928 hatte BMW die Eisenacher Motorenwerke übernommen und dort auch Motorräder gebaut. Nach dem Krieg wurde eines davon, die R35, als EMW bis 1955 dort weitergebaut. Die AWO 425, das zweite Viertaktmotorrad aus DDR-Produktion, lief dagegen schon seit 1950 im thüringischen Suhl vom Band, die Produktion endete 1960. Danach wurde per Beschluss des Staatsrates die Fertigung von Viertakt-Motorrädern auf dem Gebiet der ehemaligen DDR eingestellt. Vergessen hat man im Zweitakt-Land DDR die exotischen Viertakter aber nicht, wie Frank Rönickes Band mit viel Zeitkolorit beweist.
