The researcher investigated the link between employee retrenchment and corporate performance using the company under study. The retrenchment exercise which saw almost half of the employees being laid off, did not significantly resulted in increased corporate performance since management had not seriously considered the concerns, perceptions and attitudes of remaining employees towards work, which therefore triggered employee survivor syndrome. The remaining employees are vital for new business, if the business is to successfully transform and survive. The researcher found that there is a significant relationship between retrenchment and corporate performance. Thus if management does not adequately address the survivors of retrenchment that are responsible for driving new business, there is a highly likelihood of employees being associated with survivor syndrome. It was therefore revealed that survivor syndrome is stemmed from stress due to increased workload, job insecurity, loss of teams and friends and also lastly work-family conflict since more time is spend at the work to achieve productivity targets which then affect work-life balance hence low productivity
