Le nom de Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896), fille d'un pasteur presbytérien, romancière et militante abolitionniste américaine, est à jamais associé à son œuvre la plus célèbre, La Case de l'Oncle Tom (1852), qui eut une influence majeure sur le mouvement antiesclavagiste, jusqu'à Abraham Lincoln lui-même. Son chef-d'œuvre a occulté ses nombreux autres écrits, essais, nouvelles et romans, la plupart inédits en français à l'exception de Ma femme et moi (Théotex, 2019).
