Moses Maimonides (1138-1204) vertrat eine für das Judentum radikal neue Auffassung des Messias. Im vorliegenden Band untersucht die Autorin, ob und inwieweit diese auf Einflüsse der frühmittelalterlichen islamischen Philosophie zurückgeht. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit widmet sie den religionsphilosophischen, philologischen, geschichtlichen und politischen Aspekten einer solchen Begegnung. Die Figur des König-Messias, der Begriff der "kommenden Welt" sowie die nationale und übernationale Eschatologie bezüglich der Tage des Messias werden ausgehend von den islamischen Vermittlungen des Denkens von Platon und Aristoteles sowie ausgehend von der karäischen Theologie ausführlich analysiert.
