Das Versicularium im Sankt Galler Codex 381 wird als das wichtigste Denkmal der Messpsalmodie der älteren Zeit angesehen. Mit ihm lässt sich der ursprüngliche Verlauf der Melodie rekonstruieren. Es legt zudem eine größere Anzahl von Psalmversen vor, die in der nachkonziliaren Liturgie hilfreich sind, etwa bei der Communio mit ihren Versen als längerer Begleitgesang zur Kommunion. Diese bedeutende Quelle für den Choralgesang wird hiermit vorgestellt, die Melodien restituiert und für den Gesang nutzbar gemacht.
