Die Lebensbeschreibung des Piero di Cosimo (1462-1522) ist eine der unterhaltsamsten Viten Vasaris: Er beschreibt Piero als einen stets in Gedanken versunkenen Künstler, der im Haus alles ungeordnet, im Garten alles wuchernd lassen wollte: »Es gefiel ihm, dieser Verwilderung zuzusehen«. Einen seiner reichgeschmückten Triumph-Umzüge beschreibt Vasari ausführlich, ebenso wie das berühmte Bild ( jetzt in Berlin) von Venus und Mars samt Myrtenwald, Amoretten und Kaninchen. Piero aß am liebsten nur hartgekochte Eier, konnte weder Kirchengeläut noch Chorgesänge ertragen, freute sich über wüste Regengüsse und das Gelächter der Freunde anlässlich seiner närrischen Reden. Der Band enthält außerdem die Lebensbeschreibungen von zwei anderen Florentiner Künstlern, Fra Bartolomeo (1472-1517) und Mariotto Albertinelli (1474-1517); beide Viten sind für Savonarola und seinen »Scheiterhaufen der Eitelkeiten« wichtige Quellen.
