Die Erfindung des Akkordeons 1829 in Wien bedeutete nicht lediglich einen weiteren Neuzugang zur weitverzweigten Familie der Musikinstrumente. Vielmehr markierte sie einen historischen Einschnitt, denn mit dem Akkordeon begann ein neues Zeitalter der Musik, in dem es erstmals jedermann möglich wurde, ohne Vorkenntnisse in die musikalische Praxis einzusteigen und aktiv am Musikleben teilzunehmen. Schließlich trat das Akkordeon seinen Siegeszug um den Globus an, was zusammen mit dem Export der westlichen Tonalität jenem Phänomen Vorschub leistete, das heute in Gestalt der internationalen Popindustrie weltumspannende Wirkung entfaltet.
