Excerpt from By-Laws of the Board of Trustees of the College of New Jersey 1. The Board shall consist of not more than twenty-seven persons, including the governor of the state and The President of the College during their respective official terms.* 2. Of the entire Board, twelve shall be inhabitants of the State of New Jersey. 3. The Trustees, with the exception of the Governor of the State, shall hold office during their natural lives, save in case of resignation or removal, with cause, by the Board. 4. Each Trustee, before He enters upon the duties of His office, shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation, faithfully and impartially to perform the duties of his office, an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, and an oath of allegiance to the State in which he resides. The said oaths shall be taken in the presence of the Board, And may be administered by any member of said corporation.
